离世的人们最先来到的，便是阴间的市政府办公厅“死役所”。 在这里将会通过手续，决定那些因自杀、他杀、病死、意外死亡等各种原因而死去的人们该去向哪里。 市村是死役所的综合接待，他用礼貌到让人不快的态度面对一个又一个死者——“您是尊贵的逝者”。 来到这里的死者各种各样，有的已经接受了自己的“死亡”，而有的还没能理解现状。 究竟他们曾如何活过、又是如何死去的呢？ 从死者的申请书中抽丝剥茧，生前的惊涛骇浪一个个浮现眼前。 清白无罪者前往天堂，罪孽深重者落入地狱。又或者——。
