故事背景设在未来，威利斯经营的娱乐场所幻世，拥有一批机器人，当作人类发泄情绪，实施现实生活中无法实施的各种残忍犯罪的受害人。机器人每晚进行重启，消除前24小时的记忆，但重启过程对一个机器人（安拜·柴尔德斯饰）没有奏效，它有了记忆和自我意识，逃出了对它而言宛如地狱的幻世。它与托马斯·简饰演的，一心想扳倒幻世的警察，以及乔纳森·斯卡奇饰演的机器人设计师一起，向威利斯发起冲击。
